Around the Golden Temple

Amritsar

The bravery of the Sikhs in battle is legendary, and the heroic last stand at the Battle of Saragarhi is perhaps its greatest testament. On 12 September 1897, 21 gallant Sikh soldiers held off an army of over 10,000 Afghan tribesmen for nearly seven hours. In the heart of Old Amritsar, on the way to the Golden Temple, there lies the only Gurudwara that the British built in honour of these martyrs.

Discover such stories of bravery; learn about the tenets of Sikhism, and life in the colourful markets on a Walking Tour of Old Amritsar.
