Chennai’s Colonial Connect

Chennai

Indo-Saracenic style of architecture is a unique synthesis of Gothic Revival architecture and traditional Indian elements such as domes, arches, and features from Hindu temples. In Chennai as in other colonial strongholds of India, both government and private buildings were commissioned to be built in this amalgamation of styles. These form some of the crown jewels of Chennai’s colonial architecture. The Victoria Terminus in Mumbai and the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata are some excellent examples of this style. Even the Rambagh Palace in Jaipur is styled in this fashion.

Spend time Exploring the Indo-Saracenic Architecture of Madras or what remains of this uniquely endemic style. Each building has stories extraordinaire of the amalgamation of two worlds.
