The Zamorin’s Tale

Kozhikode

The fierce Zamorins of Kozhikode built their empire on spice trade which they monopolized with the help of their nimble naval fleet. One of the most influential kingdoms of the time, they controlled nearly all the trade ports built with the help of their allies the Moplahs. Vasco Da Gama landed 9 kms from Kozhikode in search of pepper (black gold) and other spices and was unsuccessful in colonizing the Zamorins due to the influence they had gathered over 500 years of rule, in fact he was expected to pay taxes on the trade he carried out.

Accompany an experienced storyteller on The Heritage Trail that will take you through the historic beaches and landmarks of Kozhikode remnant of the Zamorins and the spice trade.
