“The Kurichiyas were a nomadic hunter gatherer clan who turned to agriculture and have devised ingenious farming techniques in the recent times. Natives of Wayanad, they were known to be expert archers who have a deep connect with the forest owing to their dependency on it. History also speaks of their martial skills and their battle against the British alongside the Pazahassi Raja (de facto head of the kingdom of Kottayam) in the early 19th century. They are identified by the sandalwood paste that adorns their forehead and chest. ”
