Kipling’s Shimla

Shimla

Rudyard Kipling stayed at the Northbank in Shimla for almost five years. Although his house is in a dilapidated condition now, it still exists and the area receives its name from the house. This is the house where he complained of monkeys picking away his hairbrushes and mirrors. Many of his tales and short stories feature Shimla and of all the characters that passed from the real life ‘Simla’ into the pages of Kipling’s books, the mysterious Mr Jacob and Mrs. Hauksbee are unforgettable.

Pens and Brushes Walk starts from the house of Rudyard Kipling and finishes at an art gallery of one of the last living legends of the Bengal School of Art.
